Established 1958

Discover how a third-generation family business, rooted in a 1958 auto shop, is using cutting-edge technology to transform the automotive market.

The Bootlegger’s Apprentice

Born during the Great Depression and raised during Prohibition, my grandfather, Russ, grew up dirt-poor in rural Kentucky, where survival required ingenuity. Fascinated by mechanics, he spent his childhood dismantling farm tools, watches, and anything else he could get his hands on. By the age of twelve, he earned his first dollar working for a moonshine-running crew. He was too young to be a driver, so he worked as a mechanic, ensuring their cars could outrun the law. He swapped Ford flatheads for Cadillac V8s, stiffened suspensions to conceal hidden liquor, and fine-tuned engines for maximum speed. Without realizing it, he was helping lay the groundwork for American stock car racing, or NASCAR, a sport he would follow for life.

Call to service

The moment he was old enough, my grandfather enlisted in World War II alongside his brother Harlen. While Harlen stormed the beaches of Normandy, took shrapnel, and earned a Purple Heart, my grandfather was handed a wrench instead of a rifle. Recognizing his mechanical skills, the Army Air Forces promoted him to Sergeant and assigned him to keep transport trucks, jeeps, and aircraft ground crews running. He always credited his trade for keeping him relatively safe, knowing his war was fought in grease-covered hangars instead of the battlefield. Even in wartime, his love for machines grew. The skills and discipline he sharpened in the service would define the rest of his life.

Coffey’s Body Shop

After the war, my grandfather settled in Dayton, Ohio, a city known for innovation and as the birthplace of aviation. Always accompanied by his trusty shop dog, Molly, he spent a decade saving before buying a small shop from a man named John Coffey in 1958. He liked the name so he kept it. As the business grew, so did the family. My dad worked alongside my grandfather, learning the trade, however his true passion was sports. Coffey’s gave him the flexibility to play semi-pro baseball, coach, and establish multiple youth programs, many of which still thrive today. Over the years, he became a cornerstone of Dayton athletics, mentoring countless young athletes while my grandfather kept the city moving on the road.

A Tribute to Fathers, A Promise to Sons

In the summer of 2016, just a few weeks apart, my grandfather and father both lost their battles with cancer. Though they could not be saved, and my own son will never have the chance to meet them, their passion, stories, and values can still be carried forward. Coffey & Sons is redefining how rare and bespoke cars are showcased, configured, and collected. By leveraging mixed reality, AI, and blockchain technology, we create an immersive experience that honors the past while driving innovation forward. But this is about more than just cars. It is a commitment to giving back, supporting pediatric cancer research and youth sports, and ensuring the next generation inherits more than machines. They inherit a mission. We might not be able to save our fathers, but we can still strive to save our sons.

Coffey & Sons is a mission-driven company dedicated to making a difference. We contribute a portion of every sale to support groundbreaking research in pediatric brain cancer, helping advance treatments and bring hope to families in need.

My grandpa was a true car lover, always restoring classics and sharing their history. I envision Coffey & Sons as a way to continue spreading his passion by passing down stories and experiencing cars in a way that feels impossibly real.

With Apple Vision Pro, its like stepping into an exclusive auto show or private collection. Legendary cars can now be experienced in an innovative and magical way, all from the comfort of home.
